My name is Jacqueline Gothe. I am a design researcher in visual communication design, information design and practices of critical visualisation. My research approach foregrounds research through design as a knowledge creating paradigm, relational design and transdisciplinarity. I have spent many years considering the application of communication and design principles in land management and investigating transdisciplinary approaches in environmental projects.

Situated in contemporary Australia my practice acknowledges that a visual dialogue with land is central and entails a project of recognition and revisioning – the recognition of the lived experiences, culture and knowledge of generations of Aboriginal people and the revisioning of landscapes through a collective act of will. Practices of collaboration and co-creation are central to this investigation. My focus is materialisation of transcultural and transdisciplinary knowledges to inform change in land management. For many decades I have worked in partnership with Firesticks Alliance, an Indigenous-led network that mentors, shares and supports the revival of cultural burning practices in natural resource and fire management contexts.

My work is widely published in academic contexts, I am invited to speak at conferences and workshops and recognised for communication and information design by the International Institute of Information Design Awards (IIID).
